SFSR Sam-E Newsletter - July 2010

Talented Individuals Join SFSR Board

Welcome to our new SFSR board members Jodie Rothhouse and TruthSayer. Board members work tirelessly to rescue and rehome displaced Samoyeds, and we look forward to leveraging Jodie and TruthSayer’s talents. Jodie, who will be leading the SFSR fundraising efforts, is a seasoned sales and marketing professional, with both national and California veterinary tech licenses. She has volunteered at numerous nonprofit groups including the Oakland SPCA, and joined SFSR because Samoyeds have the “magic” that makes everyone smile

Thank you Jodie and TruthSayer for your generous contribution of time!

Annual Picnic and Member Meeting – Save the Date!

Saturday, October 2, 2010 – 10AM – 3PM
It’s that time again! Join us once again for the annual SFSR Picnic and Member Meeting at Oracle Park in Redwood Shores – it’s a day enjoyed by adults, children, Sammies and Sammie-wannabes.

This year’s picnic will include many fun events including carting, a silent auction, raffles and an auction of great items such as whale watching tickets, board elections (we have positions available for 2011!) and a member meeting.

Bring your Samoyed, a smile, and cash or your checkbook (no credit cards accepted). The picnic is our biggest fundraising event of the year. We hope you already got a save the date card in you e-mail for this October 2 event, and watch your email for further details.

From Sadness to Sammy Smiles

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of long time SFSR member and Sammy lover Marcia Hopkins, who left behind her beloved Salty and Oso. SFSR extends our deepest sympathies to Marcia’s friends and family. Beautiful full bred, Salty was the most recent addition to the Hopkins home. His former owners picked Marcia as his new adoptive mom after home visits with numerous interested parties; they knew right away that Marcia and Oso were the right family for their Salty! Sammy mix (with freckles!) Oso came to Marcia under more urgent circumstances, finding love, food, shelter, and companionship with Marcia after being abandoned at a foreclosed home. A concerned agent notified SFSR, who rescued Oso and placed him that day with Marcia.

Thank you to the generosity of members who sent well wishes and money, and a special thank you to Julie Reichenbach for fostering Salty and Oso. We are pleased to share they were adopted in June. They will be living the high life in the Santa Barbara area with their older Samoyed sister, Kaushi. It was love at first sight for Beth and Paige, and Oso and Salty were likewise pleased. They all fell in love and we are thrilled with this happy ending.

Volunteers Sought

SFSR is seeking volunteers for our Fundraising Committee devoted to raising donations (through a variety of fund raising events) to help rescue Sammies in the greater Bay area and provide them with veterinary care and adoptive homes. Headed by Jodie Rothhouse, this committee is already in action! Click here for your chance to win a 1968 Corvette, where 50% of the ticket price comes directly to SFSR. For information on joining the Fundraising Committee, please contact Jodie at jodiee@pacbell.net. We can’t do it without you! Any help you can offer is always appreciated.
